Spirituality or Insanity?

I’ve always had trouble accepting psychics and belief in spiritual beings like angels because I knew too much about mental disorders. What would have happened to Joan of Arc if she had existed today? Is the difference between schizophrenia and divine guidance what one does with the information? If you go out and lead an army for a divine purpose does that make you less insane than if you kill people because a dog told you to?

There are so many disorders and symptoms that are similar to divine or mystic occurrences. Disturbed thought processes, auditory and visual hallucinations, delusions… is it any wonder someone experiencing a psychic awakening or spiritual visitation would think they were going crazy?

But consider this…maybe the difference between insanity and spirituality is when it is questioned. Maybe questioning the evidence is a sign of a healthy mind and when the evidence is still there and can’t be explained away, then it has to be accepted on faith.
